SS12: Lee Lapthorne Talks About A Fresh Direction For On|Off In Paris

Lee Lapthorne, On|Off director What does On|Off have in store for SS12?

An intimate On|Off Tuuli dinner catwalk at the Rankin Studio for 30 select industry people and catwalk shows and exhibitions in Paris, as part of Paris Fashion Week.

Why did you decide to moveOn|Off entirely to Paris this season?

When we launched On|Off in 2003 we were revolutionary, there was nothing like it outside of the British Fashion Council official tent. Now there are many initiatives in London, which have been inspired by us, therefore it was time to move forward and seek new inspiration. Paris offers On|Off new ventures on a Global scale.

What does Paris have to offer that London possibly doesn’t?

A truly international audience that is keen to do business transactions.

Why will it benefit the designers to showcase at On|Off during Paris Fashion Week?

We offer the London edge in Paris, but also the exact same support network to create a professional showcase. We have a huge marketing campaign, a Paris based PR and an internationally recognized reputation.

How do the designers feel about the move?

When I approached both Pam Hogg and Charlie Le Mindu, they were SO excited and thrilled to show in Paris. We have been contacted by many international designers since and have selected an extremely strong designer selection.

How have you curated the On|Off space this season?

Each season we create a strong identity for On|Off and this season is no exception. The venue - Espace Commines - is an amazing unique, known venue and we have created an interior to complement the space. New technology is also featured with AV projections and LED screens throughout – it’s very much an On|Off space.

What inspires you when thinking about the concept for On|Off each season?

The team and I brainstorm and it usually resonates from extensive research and a feeling/mood for a theme

What is your vision for On|Off going forward?

To go Global!

Will you continue to show during Paris Fashion Week?

We have been showcasing an exhibition in Paris successfully for the past four years. Catwalk? Let’s see how this season goes, but we have had such a positive response from those in Paris and have been welcomed by the industry - the future is positive!
