Describe your customer in 3 words

Curious, Eclectic, observant.

Describe your collection in 5 words

Textured, Provoking, Whimsical, Idiosyncratic, Narrative.

Who have you dressed in the public eye? – Who would you like to? – Who needs to be dressed by you?

Grayson Perry Artist and Turner Prize Winner owns some of my collection and Guinevere Van Seenus looked hauntingly Beautiful in some of my collection for Dazed A/W 2015. I’m currently in talks with comedian Noel Fielding about designing something custom for him, which is perfect as I enjoy designing for people with character and curiosity, that applies to anyone not just people in the public eye. I’m a fan of Florence Welsh both her music and personal style so It would be interesting to design for her. It’s always exciting to collaborate with other Artists in different fields.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

The creation and completion of my Graduate collection. It’s definitely an incredibly fulfilling thing to finish such a large volume of work that’s so personal and time consuming.

What is your unique selling point?

At the moment every garment or accessory I make is hand printed/embellished, which means that every product is completely unique in some way as it enables chance for tiny harmless and beautiful mistakes.

What makes your product stand out from the crowd?

The prints and illustrations are very personable.

I think people are drawn towards it maybe visually initially through the colours and print or the glimmer of embellishment. People are intrigued when looking up close at the prints as to what sort of story they tell. It’s also up close that you can tell everything is hand printed/embellished/embroidered- A lot of consideration and care goes into every garment.

Where are you sold?

People can contact Anisa Topan P.R for custom requests.

What is your number one ambition?

To continue making fashion that isn’t ‘throw away’ and to hopefully continue to provoke thought and imagination through it.

Have you won any awards? – If so what for?

I won a bronze medal for Irish dancing when I was about 8!! I also won the Swarovski Scholarship Award in my final year at Central Saint Martins in which Swarovski paid for my university fees as well as funding my Graduate collection for which I feel extremely privileged!

I also won an award from Liberty London for a print design project I did for them based on the Art Movement Futurism.

What trend is On?

Subtle hints and surprises are always eye catching- Interesting layers!

What Trend is Off?

The 90’s craze has had its time now.

Who have you learnt more from? – What did you learn?

Various Art, Fashion and Illustration tutors along the way have given me the confidence in my own creative thought processes.

Also my mum and dad who are both artists themselves have taught me to always produce work with honesty and substance.

Tell us an interesting Fact that no one would know about you?

I moved to England from Ireland by myself when I was 16 to study acting.

Describe a typical day

I work freelance so everyday is different. I typically get up at 8:30 or 9am and either do yoga or go for a run. I then shower and have breakfast which always includes a goats milk latte. Ill then go through my morning emails and look through the list of things to do I always make the night before. I look through my research and stick up the reference’s and images I’m going to take inspiration or draw from that day. Depending on the stage of the process Ill either be drawing in a sketch book or preparing for a silk screen I want to expose. Once I have screens ready for printing Ill spend full days/late nights in my print studio in Dalston printing on both paper and fabric.

What do you do in your spare time for fun?

I love exploring new bits of London. I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me whether I’m just out walking or seeing an exhibition or at a gig. I have a beautiful bunch of varied and creative friends who ill eat, drink and party when ever I get the chance.

What do you love to wear?

I’m most comfortable in things that are effortless but beautiful. My wardrobe consists of mostly dresses and slips that I can dress up or down. I don’t believe in day wear or night wear I think you can wear most things in any occasion as long as its styled well and the person is comfortable enough to pull it off.

Where do you shop?

I buy a lot of my clothes from markets and charity shops and am quite good at finding treasures. The markets in Paris are the best! Ill sometimes treat myself to something from Liberty or Selfridges if I fall completely in Love! Because I know ill have it forever. I have several pairs of beautiful Christian Louboutin Shoes that I got at some sample sales- they are pieces of art that decorate my room. I hang my prettiest dresses outside my wardrobe so I can admire them.

Whats the most valuable experience that you can share to others?

I spent some time as a Stagiere at Christian Dior Couture in Paris which was an incredible and eye opening experience. The amount of work that goes into the design process at a couture house is mesmerising! I went to British Vogue soon afterwards and It was rewarding and a privilege to see things come full circle from the studio Ateliers in Paris to the fashion editorials in Vogue. Generally people only hear of or see a couple of the faces involved whether it was Raf Simmons for Dior or Anna Wintour for Vogue. I will never take for granted the amount of talented people behind the scenes bringing everything together right up to the last minute.
