Typical Freaks are a London based fashion brand by Seun Ade-Onojobi, a Central Saint Martins MA Fashion graduate, and Sonia Xiao a graduate from womenswear at London College of Fashion.
They combine their mutual appreciation for colour and print, into fun, textured garments for those who don’t want to blend in.
Their clothing is inspired by the eccentricities of having grown up in London and the marginalised and unconventional people who inhabit it.
The overall message of their collections is about rebellion and being confident in being an ‘outsider’, an individual and on the fringes of society. Whimsical pop culture references are juxtaposed with more serious ethical debates, banality is mixed with exuberance and pretension is abandoned in favour of not taking fashion too seriously. All encapsulated in an aesthetic they dub ‘kawaii-punk’ – a clashing mash up of cute motifs and a painterly, DIY attitude.
