DIG THE NEW BREED FILM COMPETITION
On|Off, Tuuli and Rankin are excited to announce the return of the “Dig the New Breed” competition, which this year will offer up-and-coming film directors the opportunity to submit fashion films. The winning directors will be offered the unique chance to be part of “Dig the New Breed” exhibition at Rankin’s prestigious Annroy Gallery in London and feature in the second issue of On|Off’s Limited Edition printed fanzine.
The competition is open for submissions from now until 27th January 2012. All work submitted would be personally selected by Rankin.
Rankin first came to prominence when he co-founded Dazed & Confused with Jefferson Hack, which became one of the most important magazines of the 90’s. Earning a reputation for creative portraiture and a talent for capturing the character and spirit of his subjects, Rankin quickly became a formidable force in photography, shooting Brit-pop bands including Pulp and Blur and darlings of pop such as Kylie and Madonna. Rankin’s career continued to blossom and covers for German Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Arena and GQ quickly followed.
Model and wife to Rankin, Tuuli began her modelling career at the age of 16 when she joined top modelling agency Storm. Campaigns with Arena, Cosmopolitan, Jitrois, Harpers Bazaar, Byblos Blu and a role in Richard Curtis’ Love Actually followed. Having built up a strong modelling career – Tuuli is now keen to pursue more projects behind the camera lens through art direction and curation.
Director Lee Lapthorne founded On|Off, the global innovative fashion showcase, in 2003. On|Off takes place twice a year during London and Paris Fashion weeks. The event showcases new fashion collections to UK and International press, through hosting catwalk shows, a static exhibition and art installations. On|Off’s pioneering approach has attracted some of the most exciting talent from the UK and internationally, including: Pam Hogg, Hannah Marshall, Jasper Conran, Gareth Pugh, Peter Pilotto, Aminaka Wilmont, Gardem, Karen Walker, Charlie Le Mindu and Roksanda Ilincic.
The second issue of the On|Off Fanzine, produced and created in collaboration with Tuuli, will feature some of the most talented emerging fashion designers, artists, set designers, stylists and film makers of the moment. The Limited Edition Fanzine will be presented on February 16th at the Rook & Raven Gallery in London as well as at the On|Off Paris Fashion Week venue, Espace Commines between February 29th and March 3rd 2012.
