Shilpa Chavan

Although predominantly a milliner and accessories designer, LittleShilpa has since expanded to apparel. She ensures that in each collection, all three factors (clothing, head-gear and corresponding accessories) come together to portray a vivid and cohesive view of her vision as a whole.

The pieces in every collection use varied raw materials, fusing ideas collected through travel and multi-cultural interaction. Each piece, from headpieces to jewellery, is individually crafted. The USP of the brand is that no two pieces are identical.

Using fashion as a base, she uses different mediums like styling, photography, videography and art installations as a collective spectrum.

Q&A

1. What’s the story behind this season’s collection?
Littleshilpa AW16 is a trek through zeitgeist moments of the Eighties, as well as their re-introduction into the millennial culture.
Think Fireball XL5 , Grease , and Wham!, fused with the functional freeform gear of today.
The collection is laced with a nod of nostalgia, by way of lace and pastel colours, to romanticise the sinewy, semi-sporty silhouettes of the pieces

2. What’s On?
Watching the sun rise up from the sea, and beginning the day before most people do. I enjoy Hour Zero, when it’s calm, traffic is nil and activity is on mute.

3. What’s Off?
Quite simply, negative energy. It’s impossible to stay in the moment when the moment isn’t worth staying in.

4. Describe what On|Off means to you
ON : A cup of black coffee, as I pour over the day’s To Do list.
Off : A glass of red wine in the evening, with (hopefully) the To Do list in the trash bin.
