Catwalk Designers

Afshin Feiz

Paris-based British designer Afshin Feiz has experience at Thierry Mugler, Nina Ricci, John Galliano and Christian Lacroix. He started his eponymous label  4 years ago with business partner Thierry Gillet. This will be the brand’s second outing at ON/OFF at London Fashion Week, following a couple of years of showing at New York Fashion Week.

Feiz’s aesthetic adheres to a feminine woman who loves detail and is resolutely steadfast in her desire for top quality fabrics and manufacturing. Though Feiz pushes the feminine message as much as he can, his woman is not overtly girly but has an underlying cool. For Winter 2008, gone are the super airy pastel colours and fabrics and replaced with a stronger, darker look. The customer remains the same but she feels tougher and is in need of something new and different to Spring. Silhouettes are nevertheless reminiscent of last season but with heavier wools and darker colours, brightened up with occasional splashes of bright coloured satins and metallics. Feiz has dressed everyone from Elizabeth Hurley to Diane Kruger to Katie Holmes.

Louise Amstrup

Danish born Louise Amstrup spent part of her childhood living in Germany and later returned to Duesseldorf to complete her studies. In 2003 she graduated from Akadamie Modedesign, where she was awarded the “Graduate Talent” prize. She now lives in London.

Louise has worked with various designers including Alexander Mcqueen, Jonathan Saunders, Alistair Carr and Sofia Kokosalaki  . However, with the growing interest and demand for her work, Louise decided it was time to take on a new challenge. She successfully launched her self- titled debut collection “Louise Amstrup” in 2006 and following a phenomenal response, is proud to announce the launch of her fourth collection.
With an aim to dress women in contemporary garments and promote individuality, Louise Amstrup creates a powerful, feminine collection with a soul to suit the female shape. Her culturally mixed background is reflected in her designs: a hint of the strict and constructed meets soft and surreal, but always with a slightly ironic stitching. “ I don’t like it when designs or creativity seem forced, I believe that my clothes rest in their own creative personality and radiate a natural soul- a piece of my imagination”.

Garments are made from delicate silks and soft chiffons mixed with exclusive wools and cottons.

A woman wearing Penkov should be above all: feeling strong by wearing her clothes, but never lose the lighness of being.

Having completed a BA in Fashion Design & Fashion Marketing at the American University in London, Carlotta Gherzi began test running her designs under her own name at the Alternative Fashion Week in London 2001. The success of this show proved there was a market for her creative talent.

However, after reflecting on the show, Carlotta felt there was a need to broaden her customer base, so enlisted another designer - Evan Del Franco. Evan had studied at London College of Fashion and together they have forged a harmonious working relationship. Rolling out a capsule men’s collection, in tandem with the women’s wear offer they pushed forward the then registered Sado’ label – winning the Cancer Research Young Fashion Designer of the Year Award.
In 2004, Sado decided to enter a growing prosperous market- the Russian arena, one that Carlotta understood very well, having lived her formative years in Russia.  The instincts proved correct and Sado’ sold three consecutive collections in the finest silk, wool, cashmere, suede, to some of the best retail outlets in Russia.

To follow up this year and extend their company profile and sales in the UK and European market, Sado will be showcasing their work on international fashion treadmill, by having a static and runway fashion show of their 2008 spring/summer in September 2007 at On|Off.

Half Indian, half British Fiona Sinha, was born in Aberdeen in 1979, and raised in Newcastle. Aleksandar Stanic was born in Croatia in 1979, and moved to Hamburg, Germany in 1990. In 1998, both moved to London to begin a foundation course at Central St Martins.

Working on their first project together, Fiona and Aleksandar connected immediately and have been a couple ever since. Both remaining at St Martins, and finishing their degrees in 2002, Fiona began the Womanswear MA at St Martins, while Aleksandar worked freelance as a print designer.

Teaming up in 2004, Fiona and Aleksandar entered the Fashion Fringe competition, which was searching for a new generation of designers. As one of the four finalists, Fiona and Aleksandar created their first collection together, which was shown at London Fashion Week as part of Fashion Fringe. This signalled the beginning of a new label: SINHA—STANIC. Soon after the show, they signed with AEFFE, the prestigious Italian luxury goods company.

Resolutely modern, eminently wearable yet easily accessible, SINHA-STANIC STRETCH is a new departure for them both. Comprising of over 100 pieces, from the simplest accessories to fully- fledged tailored pieces, this jersey based collection runs the gamut from sheer stretch net to heavy duty felted knits.

Spjikers en Spijkers

Sharp, bold and functional – Spijkers en Spijkers have since the label’s foundation in 2000 built an instantly recognizable and desirable style. While rebelling against stereotypical ideas of femininity. Spijkers en Spijkers speak to confident, active and modern women who rewrite the rules about their sex.

After all, Spijkers en Spijkers is female design knowledge squared. Twin sisters Truus and Riet set up the company after having graduated from the College of the Arts in Arnhem and completed an M.A at the Fashion Institute Arnhem. While still in college the girls separately won prizes: the Body Fashion Design Award and the Contec Design Award. The winning streak continued when their debut collaboration was honored with the Robijn Fashion Award.

The twins complement each other’s talents perfectly: Truus is the painter, she thinks in style and colours, while Riet is the sculptor, turning their mutual ideas into three-dimensional pieces. Citing Schiaparelli and Vionnet as their respective heroines, the pair utilizes their individuality for their common vision. They like to work with strong and clear geometrical forms, and use them to create coupe and to emphasize the female body. This way they can show the female forms in a strong and independent way.

Spijkers en Spijkers have shown in London for several seasons now and are continuing to build an international following in press and retail. Their work has been featured internationally in a wide range top-tier publications.

White Suede

Designer, Jacqui Demkiw (from Melbourne Australia) creates beautiful clothing featuring exquisite finishes and focusing on detailing, whilst combining her love of Australia with her Ukrainian heritage.  The collections are inspired from her eclectic vintage pieces, childhood dreams and romantic images.  Each collection a piece of artwork from her scrapbook and every piece loved.

This White Suede Winter 08 collection is complex and full of contradictions between soft silhouettes and more hard edge designs featuring leather and hand sewn finishes.  Billowing silk blouses are combined with 1920s shifts and high rise trousers.  The feel is strong and feminine with corset styled dresses featuring boning and high waist lines complete with sunray pleats.  The style is fluid yet still strong and bold.

White Suede is steadily gaining an international reputation and is stocked by some of the world’s leading boutiques in London, New York, LA, Copenhagen and, of course, in Australia.

Wildlife Works

Wildlife Works UK has just launched in the UK with a distinct mission to provide substance alongside style. Through the production of beautifully made, high quality, organic & fair trade compatible apparel on its 80,000 acre eco-sanctuary in Kenya, Wildlife Works UK will set a new standard in the British fashion world.

Wildlife Works UK serves both people and animals. Wildlife Works was set up originally as a wildlife sanctuary to prevent the loss of important, rare and valuable species. “Clothing was not originally part of our plan“ says founder Mike Korchinsky. ”THOUGH The sanctuary was started purely to stop poaching - we look afTer 47 mamamals and 5 endangered species - it taught us the value of providing a sustainable income to the local community and engaging them in the process”. This was the catalyst for Wildlife Works, which is a 100% organic clothing brand.

Wildlifeworks is now in its 3rd season and is about to launch Menswear within the main Womenswear catwalk show at On|Off in February.
